How Frontex Helps Haul Migrants Back To Libya
A months-long investigation with Lighthouse Reports, Der Spiegel, Libération, Domani and ARD Monitor uncovers back channels between Frontex and the Libyan coast guards.

The evidence demonstrates a level of engagement and direction which, experts say, violates European and international law. It also contradicts assertions by Frontex that it does not direct Mediterranean interceptions.
We combined ship and plane tracking data with NGO logs and data from international orgs, witness testimony and confidential sources. The reporting showed that Frontex flew over migrant boats on at least 20 occasions since January 2020 before the Libyan coast guard hauled them back.
The investigation has been nominated for DE TEGEL IN THE NETHERLANDS and the EUROPEAN PRESS PRIZE.
