INSIDE DARFUR
I was given rare access to near-destroyed El Geneina in Sudan’s Darfur. The region has witnessed a horrific massacre, with armed attacks resulting in numerous civilian casualties and widespread devastation.
A year ago, the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group and its Arab allies, at war with the Sudan armed forces, took control of the city. Overwhelmed survivors stopped counting, but the dead may number as high as fifteen thousand, with hundreds of thousands forced to flee.
This selection reveals a rare glimpse into what the city looks like now.
